On Saturday, Colts 3 travelled to play a strong Rotterdam first team for a late 16:30 kick off. Under the floodlights of the main Rotterdam field the hosts immediately showed why they were the favourites, scoring 3 unanswered tries in the first 20 minutes. HRC stayed in the game however through great defence from the Baart twins and a late first half try by the strong Mats Visser.
There was obviously something in the water at the half time break as Colts 3 came out fighting in the second half. Seve Oldenberg and Quentin Wassenaar kept HRC playing in the opposition half with some lengthy touch finders for the many penalties Rotterdam were beginning to concede. The backs were served great ball by scrum half Just van Tol and forward momentum provided by Kick Eilander playing out of position on the wing. Three tries by HRC set up a nail biting last 15 minutes with Rotterdam scoring once again but then cancelled out by one from HRC. The defence of HRC stood firm in the last 5 minutes led by a man of the match performance from Toer Sprij and at least 3 try saving tackles from the energetic Hugo Boender and battle scarred Rodus Jenissen.
This match showed the fight that this team is capable of and produced one of the best Colts performances of the season! Final score Rotterdam 29 – 33 HRC Colts 3.
