On a very sunny Easter weekend 52 HRC Cubs and 9 leaders travelled on Friday to Cobham in the UK for their annual rugby trip.
A very busy schedule was planned and after arriving at our accommodation at 15.00 our first games were against tough Cobham teams at 18.30. HRC fielded 3 teams and put in very strong performances in all 3 games. On this occasion loosing all 3 narrowly but showing that Dutch rugby is growing from strength to strength.
On Saturday 2 more games scheduled against Chess Valley Rugby Club. A small club but with a very warm welcoming atmosphere in a lovely setting. HRC U14 came out winners in their game and U13s played a series of ’short’ matches winning 2 and loosing 1. Once showered and fed it was time to jump on the bus to head to Coventry to watch Saracens vs Munster in the European Cup Semi finals. A great game and wonderful experience for the children. Finally on Saturday, pizza in the small town of `Rugby` (where rugby originated) concluded a long but exhilarating day.
Sunday was more relaxed with a BBQ lunch cooked by the leaders and a visit to an Indian restaurant on Sunday evening giving some children the chance to taste this interesting cuisine for the first time. Sunday night was `Judge and Jury` time which is always good fun and a nice way to conclude the trip.
Monday morning was packing up time followed by full English breakfast in a local café before getting on the bus with exhausted children and leaders.
`Man of the Match` of the trip was undoubtedly `Lars` our bus chauffeur who stayed incredibly calm and well humoured throughout the weekend.
