This Saturday, HRC Touch played the Saint Nicolas Touch Tournament in Soignies, Belgium. The team battled against the top teams of Belgium as well as a barbarian team of highly decorated players.
The team, led by Captain Irene and Co-Captain Josh, had some fantastic highlights throughout the day, despite some tense games. Although the turf was frozen, the day started off well, with the team getting a strong win against the Brigandze team. The next game was against Kituro, which was much more challenging and resulted in the HRC Fluffy Dragons losing 4-3. But there were many great points during the game, and it was very close considering the Fluffies sustained 2 injuries. After Lunch, Big Bang Europe were the next rivals, one of the members being the HRC Touch Coach Jon McDonald. This was the best performance by the Fluffies, who showed resilience during defense and were sharp on attack. Sadly, the sheer experience and knowledge of Big Bang Europe came to light as they beat the Fluffies 6-0. The final game of the day was against BUC, who were a close match-up for the Fluffies, but after some fatigue and injury they took the 2-3 win. Overall the Fluffies placed 4th in the tournament.
This was a great experience for HRC Touch as there were new members stepping on the field playing at the highest level of Belgian touch. The team put on a good performance considering they had little training together with this lineup. Many things will be learnt from this and the team can only get better and better.
