Touch Rugby: What’s that?
Touch rugby is an exciting, non-contact variation of traditional rugby, where the goal is to ground the ball over the opponent’s try line to score tries. Instead of tackling, players simply make a touch on their opponents to stop their progress. This sport emphasizes strategy, speed and agility while encouraging teamwork and individual skills.

The Essence of Touch Rugby
The beauty of touch rugby lies in its inclusivity. It promotes cooperation while enhancing players’ quickness and dexterity. Originating from rugby à XIII, touch rugby has gained immense popularity in Australia and New Zealand, where the International Federation of Touch is headquartered. Today, the sport has expanded globally, with players from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the USA passionately engaging in the game.

Why Give Touch Rugby a Try?
Touch rugby is perfect for people of all ages and abilities, making it an inclusive sport for everyone. Here are some compelling reasons to give it a go:
– Fitness; it’s a fantastic cardiovascular workout that keeps you active and healthy;
– Social Connections; the sport is ideal for forming new friendships and meeting people with similar interests;
– Skill Development: playing touch rugby enhances dexterity, coordination, and teamwork

HRC Touch: a Space for Everyone
At HRC Touch, we welcome players of all skill levels with the primary objective of having fun and staying fit!

For Young Players: touch rugby is a great introduction to sports for children aged four to ten. It teaches fundamental skills such as catching, passing, running and spatial awareness that are valuable across various sports. Boys and girls can play on the same team, making it a great co-ed experience, whether in casual or competitive play.

For Teens: touch rugby provides an engaging environment for players aged 11 to 17 to develop a wide range of skills in both social and competitive settings. Again, mixed-gender teams foster inclusivity and camaraderie, enhancing the overall experience.

The First Step for Aspiring Players
If your children are eager to learn rugby but either you our them are not yet ready for tackling, touch rugby is the perfect starting point. Even renowned professionals like Dan Carter played touch rugby in New Zealand before advancing to the full-contact version of the sport.

All-Women Touch Rugby: Empowering Women in Sport
Our all-women’s touch teams are a perfect option for those looking for a supportive environment, focused on development without the dominance often seen in mixed-gender matches. The Sassies Dragons team is committed to ensuring that women feel comfortable and fully included within the rugby community. We actively encourage more women to join and stay involved in the sport.

Competition and Social Opportunities
HRC Touch participates in major European competitions, including the Dutch championship in both mixed divisions for men and women. Our teams include several international players, and we pride ourselves on our strategic play, speed, and competitive spirit.

Whether you’re looking to compete at high levels, including European preliminaries for the national team, the World Cup, the European Cup, and potentially even the Olympic Games in the future, or simply seeking a way to stay active after an injury, touch rugby has something for everyone.
