Introduction to the Haagsche Rugby Club
The Haagsche Rugby Club (HRC) was founded in 1932 and is the largest rugby club in the Netherlands! At the end of the 2021 season, the club almost had 800 members. The first men’s team of HRC (HRC1) plays in the highest division in the Netherlands. The club won the national championship in 1966, 1967, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1978, 1980, 1985, 1999, 2001, 2002 and again 12 years later, in 2014. In addition, HRC has a second men’s team (HRC 2) that plays in the Second Division and a third men’s team that plays in the Third Division. There is also a ladies team “HRC Xtreme” and they play in the First Division. Furthermore it must be mentioned that HRC has the largest youth department with around 640 members who are younger than 20 and almost 400 children who play in the youngest youth categories (from 4 to 12 years). Within the youth department of HRC, many national titles are won year after year and many of our youth players evolve to Senior players. HRC thus with pride can call itself a “grassroot club”.
