HRC Touch Rugby ladies in Paris

On June 15th, our The HRC Touch – Fluffy Dragons – ladies squad travelled to Paris to play in the 12th edition of the Elegance tournament. A touch rugby tournament well known as one of the biggest all female touch event in Europe, and recognised for it’s famous afterparties held all around the capital city of France.

This year, 12 teams enrolled, including 4 national teams heading either to the World Cup, or the Junior European touch championships. Many other teams had international players in their squad, such as HRC Touch with 8 players representing the Dutch Women’s Open team.

At the young hour of 10:00 am, we played our first game against the Golddiggaz, a Scottish team, which we won, with a final score of 4-0. Unfortunately our next matches were not as breezy as the first one, as we lost 5-3 to the British Hammertime team, and 3-0 to the French Hurricanes 1 team (French national champion 2023).

Ending the morning as third of our Poule, we took a long lunch break to recover, before facing off our hardest, and most intense game of the tournament, against the Squirrels of Free Touch, which was the team organising the tournament. Physically it was our hardest game and it showed, but we pulled through and lost to them with a final score of 4-2. With two games remaining, we refocussed, and as team, worked hard to win those last two games, and win 5th place over all, giving us the tittle of Plate winners. With a score of 3-2 against the French U20 team, and the same score against the French W35 who will play the world cup in July , we ended the day on a high note.

Finishing 5th overall in front of two national teams is an impressive ranking. With Hurricanes 1 coming first, and the Squirrels finishing at a close second. 3rd place was attributed to the Belgian Spicy Waffles (aka Belgium WO national team), and fourth place went to Hammertime. Our friends from Amsterdam finished 9th, with a smaller squad of players and a missing coach, putting up a good fight. Overall, our performance as a team was strong and united, and allowed us to perform in successful ways.

See you next year Elegance in Paris!!
