After almost 14 years of cohabitation, we are thrilled to announce the Haagsche Rugby Club (HRC) and Den Haag Touch joined forces. This exciting development marks a significant milestone, as HRC expands its horizons to include the dynamic and fast-growing sport of Touch Rugby. During the process, which began in January 2024 and concluded in July 2024, both the boards worked diligently together to ensure a seamless integration and meet the needs of all members. Making special mention to Sander Apperloo, Samir Boutaleb, Yofi Inja, Ian Small and Armance Toeset from Den Haag Touch, since those might at this stage be less familiar names to some of you. In addition several members of the touch community have already joined various committees within HRC, bringing fresh perspectives and enthusiasm.
With reference to the introduction to touch rugby and the upcoming clinic on the HRD Sunday, kindly be informed touch rugby is a sport that involves 6 players per team on a 50x70m pitch. It can be played in men’s, women’s, and mixed divisions. Recognized by the Federation International of Touch (FIT) and managed by Touch Nederland, the sport offers opportunities for all levels of play, from social to international competitions. During the transition phase, our mixed competition team, now representing HRC Touch, proudly won the 2024 Dutch Cup, securing the national title.
The ambition of the HRC Touch division to attract new member is double, HRC Touch is aiming:
- to reach out to potential future rugby union players who are curious about rugby-related sports but not ready for full-contact play yet;
- to provide an alternative for former rugby players of any ages, who wish to continue enjoying the sport in a different format.
Touch is an excellent way of maintaining an active lifestyle for all profiles. There are already several sections, such as the social women’s team, “The Sassies”. There is also a competitive section, “The Fluffy Dragons”, which takes part in national championships and international tournaments. And soon, for the youngest, the youth section, which will start this season on Sunday mornings.
We are excited about the future and the potential to bring more people into the rugby community through the inclusive and versatile sport of touch rugby.
If you’re interested in joining HRC Touch, whether as a player, volunteer, or supporter, we welcome you to be part of this exciting journey. Let’s grow together and make history! Training session on Mondays and Wednesdays, more info: https://linktr.ee/HRC_TOUCH
