The 3rd Oranje Series touch rugby tournament was a memorable experience for our team, a group of eleven players with a mix of seasoned athletes and newcomers to the sport. After working hard in training sessions, we brought strategies like 4-man tram lines, 32 shorts, back doors, and defensive plays like corners and shuts into our games, eager to see how they would translate on the field.
One special highlight was the addition of our youngest player, 9-year-old Jackson from our Sunday youth sessions, who joined us on the far wing. Without any substitutes for rest, Jackson held his position the entire afternoon, showing incredible energy and dedication.
The tournament was tough, featuring four games played back-to-back under gray skies and on a muddy field. Even with the rough weather, our spirits stayed high. We kicked off the day with two wins against 010 United and XXX Touch. A tight match against Eindhoven Touch resulted in a hard-fought tie. We had a tough game against Delft/URC Touch, who ended up taking the win, but we still enjoyed every moment.
Through each game, our teamwork was on full display. Our players gave it their all, and it was awesome to see all our practice pay off on the field. With high spirits and plenty of laughs, the Oranje Series was a great day for our team, and now we’re excited for the next tournament to build on what we learned.
